ABOUT UMANG REGIONAL AND NATIONAL SCHOOL FESTIVALS IMPORTANT DOWNLOADS

In the months of November and December, Umang, 2009 is being held at regional and national levels. The festival is a platform for sharing learning and identifying best practices followed in different schools as part of AEP. Schools are competing in various activities like drama, poster making, debate and story/essay writing highlighting aspects of growing up healthy, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, gender issues, importance of self esteem and handling peer pressure. The festival showcases the perspectives, opinions, ideas, hopes and aspirations of adolescent children across the country.


Key objectives of the Festival

  • Encouraging active youth engagement and participation.
  • Obtaining feedback from youth on the effectiveness of the AEP interventions.
  • Understanding youth expectations from AEP and design similar programmes aimed to address felt needs of the youth.


Children of classes IX-XII from various schools across India under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangsathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) participated at Umang 2009 during 27-29th December, 2009 at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat in New Delhi. Debate, drama, role play , story and essay writing, poster and cartoon design, extempore and elocution, slogan and jingle competitions were held along with skill building workshops such as theatre, cartoon making, mask making and story telling and creative writing.  

A total of 321 students (159 boys and 162 girls) from 35 schools took part in different activities in the festival.

  • 9 schools from the CBSE school system  across 8 regions participated in the festival. A total of 136 students were present.
  • 9 schools from the KVS school system across 2 regions participated in the festival. A total of 138 students were present.
  • 17 schools from the NVS school system  across 3 regions participated in the festival. A total of 47 students were present.
